Life Is A Collection Of Moments That Never Last
What you bring forth in every moment is entirely up to you

Have you considered that every moment you have, all of it belongs to you, and yet none of it is yours to keep? Each passing moment adds another layer to the memory bank that steadily accumulates and becomes photographs of your past. Life is a collection of moments that sing of treasured memories, of comforting love and laughter that do not remain…
That’s exactly how I felt recently. I find myself caught in these in-between moments more frequently these days. Maybe it’s the lockdown. Maybe it is age. Perhaps it’s the realization that everything is changing so fast. I can’t help feeling while time is moving forward, I am staying behind.
There is a sense of serenity knowing that I am no longer as eager to chase down the unknown. I’ve always believed regardless of where we are on our journey, there is time—time to pursue my goals, time to set sail for the horizon, time to go after my dreams. My entire life has been about waiting for the right time. Waiting, because I believe there’s always tomorrow. There’s still time.
Strange enough, after years and years of chasing down needs instead of wants, I suddenly wake up as if from a dream and now see life from a completely different perspective. I saw myself as an excited teenager wanting anxiously to grow up. Then there was the young adult who wished that time would speed up so that when I’m more established and secure, I can finally do what I truly want. Mid-life had me asking, when can I finally stop the grind and truly live?
Unbeknownst to me, time continues to flow along while I am so focused looking forward. Each moment, each day, each season that drifts past, takes their landing momentarily, and then disappears like a windy day. In the end, what remains are the scattered leaves on the ground. The memories of what I had done with the time allocated to me. The faces I remember and the places I used to go.
As I scan my surroundings with my eyes, my mind processes a different image. An image only I can see, one that now only exists in my mind. During such contemplative moments, I avoid looking back with regret and longing. Instead, I cultivate a sense of awe and gratitude for being counted worthy of those moments. Regardless of how good or bad it appeared, it is possible to focus on the flicker of light, and that is where my attention goes.
I wonder about the famous line that says: You have all the time in the world to become who you’re supposed to be. Well, yes, and no. Just like in the past, there will be moments where time will continue to escape me, slipping by beyond my control. When I finally discover I’m ready to take that leap, depending on the gap in between, it will probably vary in intensity, curiosity, impact, and the sacrifices it requires getting over to the other side.
Sure, I can still uncover endless possibilities about myself, my surroundings, and my ability that I never knew or expected. To look at myself in the mirror and claim that I can still be who I want to be might be a tad unrealistic. I was telling a friend the other day. To realize my dream of being a fitness contestant today is not the same as when I was in my early thirties.
Do you think you still have the time to be who you want to be or go where you want to go? Are you convinced that it’s never too late to go after what you desire? Maybe. Maybe not. As we hear the clock ticking, let us believe that life will indeed continue to be the best it has ever been, regardless.
